Premiership side London Irish are "very close" to holding a match in New York next season, BBC Sport understands.

The match, thought likely to take place close to St Patrick's Day next year, would be the first ever Premiership game to be staged outside England.
This cruel country has driven me down, teased me and lied.
I've only sad stories to tell to this town
My dreams have withered and died.

It's an interesting idea that's for sure. Even if it doesn't fly, the publicity that will have been gained is impressive.
