Transfer market?

by Loobs on Thu Feb 12, 2015 4:15 am

Now that we are pretty much 20 years into professional rugby, the old boys who joined their club because it was their club have now gone from the game. Now, we have a generation of players who have been nowt but professional players.

Tom Homer's departure and mention of open ended contracts, got me thinking that it is a slowly creeping thing where professional rugby is becoming like professional working life. Obviously there are differences but I wonder will we see mid-season transfers becoming more the norm? Will rugby get ahead of that with the introduction of transfer windows in the next few years?

Interesting times indeed.

Transfer fees are the only way clubs are going to be able to re-coop their expenses for bringing players forward, but none of the clubs are making enough in the UK money to pay them.

Homer could have made the club a few quid, but would Bath have wanted him if they had to pay for him?
