It was confirmed today that Alex Corbisiero has signed for Northampton Saints for the 2013/14 season.
This cruel country has driven me down, teased me and lied.
I've only sad stories to tell to this town
My dreams have withered and died.

Have we become a grooming club for Northampton?

Becoming fed up that they can stay within the salary cap (?) and still pay more than we can, even with a bigger squad.

What kind of message does this send out to the supporters.....and the other clubs when our
internationals leave at the first time of asking?

Just waiting now for confirmation of others leaving, probally won't be long to wait.

I guess that is the price we pay for a relative lack of success. I hope someone stays around for next season. I will.

Who reckons it was more money? I don't think so.

Might it have something to do with Smith shooting his mouth off (inaccurately and not the first time he has done it to a player) about Corbs's knee injury?

Oh, and firing most of the conditioning and rehab staff, but retaining the guy who was sooooo successful  at Bath with Catt?

Players having to play while half fit / injured?

Smith spouting new age craip, rather than clear modern English?

And telling the world that there are some players who are "in" and some "out", as far as he was concerned?

Things like that?

Might be.

Or getting a consultants report on players injuries and ignoring it because there is no fallback?

Or players being treated on an NHS footing rather than private? Gabriel, no offence intended to the NHS but players don't see that happening at other clubs...

James, other clubs are spending to the cap, I would be amazed if Irish are.

No offence taken. The injury of a professional rugby player is rather more crucial in timeline and effect than the same injury in someone who doesn't require to be 100% fit to earn a living and do their job. The NHS isn't geared up to treat professional sportsmen and sportswomen and different arrangements are needed usually.

I think the club is in bad shape financially and Brian Smith chose to reduce backroom staff to keep players. A risk either way.

Gabriel, There was no criticism intended.

Culling lots of back room staff has resulted in not a lot of players in the door, a lack of ability to fix the broken players and a demoralised set of players, almost propping up the table. I'm sure that we will all be rocking up next year and God willing, the next too. Who or wherever it might be.
